Window Curtains

Window curtains are a wonderful way to decorate your windows. Window curtains are usually made from fabrics such as cotton or silk and have a wide variety of colors and patterns. Typical window curtains are held up by a curtain rod that extends over the top of the window. This rod is usually covered by what is known as a valiance and keeps the rod from interfering with the pattern or color of the curtain fabric. The bar is then placed into the curtain through a loop(s) at the top of the curtain. The hanging curtain is then held to the sides of the window by curtain holders. When needed the curtains can be taken out of the holders and draped across the window. Apart from their decorative appeal, curtains also keep sunlight out during the summer to cool the interior, and also keep warm air in during the winter to help insulate the interior. They are also useful for keeping unwanted eyes away from the interior of your home.

Kitchen Window Curtains

Kitchen window curtains are usually a bit different from the ordinary curtain. The main difference is where the curtain is placed. A bar is usually placed along the center of the window, and small curtains are then added to cover the lower half. This technique allows sunlight to enter the home, but over the heads of those, for example, washing dishes or chopping vegetables. Most kitchen curtains are patterned and correlate to the various decorations around the kitchen. The most common pattern is a plaid red and white design that looks like a typical picnic blanket. Another pattern is usually animal or plant patterns. The most common single color for a kitchen curtain is white, as it goes with a variety of different colors and furnishings.

Bay Window Curtains

Bay window curtains are a wonderful way to create a cozy little space where you can escape to if you need a moment alone or with someone special. Bay windows are an outcropping of a living or family room that are usually square or polygonal in design. A raised surface lies along the bottoms of the windows creating a seating or display area. The curtain design is usually the same as a regular window design. A large bar spans the length of the bay window while curtains are hung from it and draped down the sides. What makes these curtains different is that there is now a space between the curtain and the window. The curtains now act as a makeshift door that creates a small space that one could sit in and separate themselves from the outlying area.
