Roller Shades

Roller Shades

Roller shades are sold in most major retail stores and come in a variety of colors, lengths and thicknesses. Shading your windows gives your home a more completed look and can add to the homes overall décor. The material and thickness are meant to reduce the sun’s glare and provide a degree of insulation. They range in style depending on the maker and can be found in discount prices to the very exorbitantly ticketed.

Roller Shade Kits

Shade kits are used to repair roller shades. They come with a pre-cut piece of fusible shade material, a telescoping bar to fit most windows, a pull slat (most times made of wood), one profile template, a roll of fusible tape and mounting hardware. Assembly instructions should also be included. Roller shade kits are available in places like JoAnn Fabrics, Hancock Fabrics, and The Fabric Place. Shade kits do not come with fabric so you may choose one to your own liking and depending on the type of shade kit will determine the size or weight of fabric you can use.

Levolor Decorative Roller Shade

Levolor is a name brand that offers decorative roller shades. These come in 35 available fabrics, have an easy operation via pull cord and are ideal for 3 to 4 season rooms. You can order free swatches at their website, www.levolor.com and customize and order from there as well.

Lace Roller Shades

Lace roller shades have softer fabrics that become part of a room’s decoration with their fancier designs. They need more care than the average roller shade as their material is more prone to being damaged because of the intricate patterns. They are significantly more expensive but give a room a more unique feel.

Vinyl Roller Shades

Vinyl roller shades are the most common type. They are cheaper, effective and are often purchased by those looking to defray costs of furnishing their home. They are easy to install and maintain and can be cleaned with everyday household sanitary products and come in room darkening and light filtering versions as well. Most often these are the kinds of shades found in abundance in retail stores in many different colors. However, many shades in general allow light through at either side because there must be room left for the shade to be operated. To help counter vinyl shades’ plain look a valance may be added to the top.
