Cornice Molding
The most effective way to create a cornice is through molding. The process begins with an artisan crafting a template for the mold. They usually use clay or wood for this procedure. This is the step in which the artisan creates the decorative aspect of the cornice. Patterns are inlaid to the material. Typical patterns are nature patterns such as leaves or certain staple crops. The artisan can also create patterns that project form the cornice creating a more exciting three-dimensional design. This template is then cast into a mold. Plaster or other material is then poured into that mold and allowed to harden. When finished the final result is a cornice that will be placed atop a building or around a door or window. Artisans can create their own design as mentioned above, but typically “Crown Moldings” are used. These are a family of moldings that have been designed throughout history and are still commonly used.
Cornice Board
A cornice board is a box that fits above your window or door. The box has four sides with one being the wall. They can be decorated in a number of ways. One way is to paint them. While this might not be the most elegant, it is certainly easy and cost effective. Another method is to upholster the board with fabric. This is good idea if you want to accentuate the fabrics in that particular room. A third approach is to use wallpaper. This allows the cornice board to flow with the wallpaper already in you room.

Making your own fabric cornice board is a simple and cost efficient way to spruce up the homestead. You should always begin by measuring the area you want your cornice to be placed. Next deicide how far you want your cornice to extend from the wall. Cornices are typically used to hide curtain rods or bars, so you do not want it to extend too far. The next step is to create the cornice itself. Remember to use a light wood such as plywood or foam core board; this will prevent the cornice from falling. Cut out identical pieces of wood for the depth and a longer board for the width. Use wood glue to adhere the two pieces to the longer section. Finish the cornice board by hammering some small nails through the large board and into the smaller ones. This will create a tight hold. Next, pick out fabric that you believe will go with the rest of your décor. Wrap the fabric around the cornice and make sure it is tight. Use a hot glue gun or a stapler to attach the rest of the fabric to the back of the cornice. When all of this is finished you should have a very beautiful and elegant fabric cornice.
