Window Jabots

Jabot Swags

A jabot swag is a widely used combination when discussing what to do with windows. The swag hangs in the center, often creating an upside down hump shape. The jabots are then placed on either side of the swag. The two are often the same color or complementary colors. The jabots main job is to enhance the swag by giving it more depth and textural appeal. The pleated nature of the jabot allows the viewer to see both sides of the fabric, allowing you to show off your artistic and interior design prowess. Keep in mind that you do not want to draw attention from the swag with the jabot, they are meant to accentuate one another to create a cohesive design.

Jabot Curtains

Jabots, while usually paired with another window dressing, can be used by itself as curtains. The jabots are still primarily used for decorative purposes, because the jabot itself does not cover much of the actual window. The design concept is still the same; pleated fabric that reveals both sides, but there are two distinct styles of curtain. The first is a pleated to section that does not hang down but remains rectangular, while the sides hang down at an angle with pleats. The second design mimics the swag and jabot concept, but differs due to the fact that it is one piece of fabric. The upper portion hangs down in front of the window as the pleated sides hang down window frame at an angle. Though these two styles differ only slightly, they can drastically change the overall feel of your interior space.

Dining Room Jabot

Perhaps one of the best places to set jabots is in the dining room. This simple and classy design can illuminate this formal meeting place. The colors that you choose can give off brilliant colors when sunlight hits, blanketing the room with a vibrant display. Jabots can also enhance the dining room fixtures and tableware, creating a warmer and more finished feel to the room. Jabots can also enhance the food that you prepare by using colors that will make the diner feel more relaxed and comfortable, allowing him/her to enjoy their meal. Jabots are the perfect accoutrement to this family and social meeting place.

Jabot Sets

Jabots typically come in sets of two or three. There is the valance section( the top most section that covers the bar), the center section which is usually arched or rectangular in shape and covers the top half of the window and the side sections which are usually designed to mimic the traditional pleated and angular shape of the jabot.
