Swag Curtains
Swags differ from normal curtains because of their curved nature. The curtain is usually attached to a bar above a doorway or window. Instead of the whole piece of fabric attaching to the bar, swag curtains have several small looped pieces of fabric that go over the bar. Extra fabric is used so that between each of the small looped pieces, the fabric “swoops” down creating a wave like design. This is not the only method for creating a swag. A “casual swag” for example is a piece of fabric/material that is attached to the upper corners of a window or doorway. The fabric/material then arches in between where the fabric is attached creating an upside down hump. These curtains can be created using any type of fabric or material that can create this gentle swoop.
Swag Lighting
Swag lighting is typically a string of lights that incorporates this curved design. Swag lighting can be as simple as one light, or it can stretch as far as desired. A good example of a swag light fixture is a two-lamp swag. The whole thing begins at a central point where the wiring comes out of the ceiling. Two lights are then hung apart from each other and hung on hooks. This creates the swag appearance by the lighting cords drooping down in between the two lights. There are other designs on the market besides this formulaic pattern. Lamps hanging from a central bar and lamps hanging from the ceiling are both considered styles of swag lighting.
Double Swag Shower Curtains
Perhaps the most common place to see swag in action is in the bathroom. This simple design is often incorporated into the shower curtain. What is not so commonly seen is the double swag shower curtain. This style of shower curtain incorporates the functionality of keeping water off the floor while creating a beautiful design. The first curtain is the actual shower curtain. It utilizes the swag concept by having portions of the upper section droop down between rings. The next curtain looks a lot like window drapes. A top section covers the bar while to long pieces of fabric drape from the center and are held in place at either side of the shower. This outer curtain is mainly used for its decorative appeal. Both sets of curtains usually are the same color or pattern but not typically the same fabric/material. The interior curtain is primarily a plastic or fabric that is water resistant while the exterior curtain is a fabric that matches the interior.
